Legislation to address lawsuit abuse passes out of committee
Washington, D.C. – Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT), a 501(c)(4) national advocacy and educational organization, released the following statement after the Texas House Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee voted in favor of SB 30 in a bipartisan 7-4 vote, moving lawsuit abuse legislation one step closer to passage:
“PACT thanks Chairman Leach and members of the House Judiciary Committee for voting to move forward with SB 30, legislation to protect consumers and save the average Texas family $4600 every year,” said PACT Executive Director Lauren Zelt. “Public testimony on this bill made clear that there is rampant fraud and abuse in the Texas legal system, and we encourage Calendars Committee Chairman Todd Hunter to move SB 30 to the House floor straight away.”
Note: Earlier this month, PACT launched its latest project, a short film that exposes how aggressive ads, closed-door referral deals and unnecessary medical procedures trap victims in deeper debt. You can view the film here.
